Calgary is in the Interior Plains. The Interior Plains is very flat and is mostly found in Yukon, Northwest Territories, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. On the Interior Plains, farming is very important. They grow wheat, oats, barley, flax, canola, mustard, corn, and potatoes, they also raise cattle. The Interior Plains was formed in the Precambrian and Cenozoic eras.

The Interior Plains were formed when soils near lakes and rivers from the Canadian Shield were deposited and contains all three types of rock, igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock.

There are many geological processes that affect Calgary they include sliding slopes, the rivers/floods, the glaciers which caused drumlins and volcanic eruptions back 7700 years ago.
